COPPER ORE SEPARATION PROCESS
Copper ore is one of the most important metal ores used in modern industry. It primarily contains valuable copper-bearing minerals such as chalcopyrite (CuFeS₂), bornite (Cu₅FeS₄), chalcocite (Cu₂S), and malachite (Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂), with gangue minerals like quartz and silicates. The density of copper-bearing minerals ranges from 4.1 to 5.5 g/cm³. Copper is widely used in electrical wiring, plumbing, electronics, and renewable energy systems due to its excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance.
In practice, gold is used in jewelry, electronics (for corrosion-free electrical contacts), dentistry and aerospace components. The beneficiation challenge lies in efficiently liberating both coarse (>0.5 mm) and fine (<200 µm) gold particles while maintaining high recovery and minimizing environmental impact through controlled tailings management and cyanide detoxification.
