SILVER ORE PROCESS FLOW DIAGARM

Silver ores typically have a specific gravity ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 g/cm³ and occur in both primary vein‐hosted deposits (e.g., argentite, silver-bearing galena) and secondary placer accumulations of native silver. Ore types include free gold–silver alloys, sulfide minerals such as galena, tetrahedrite and polybasite, and oxide forms like cerargyrite.
Beneficiation challenges involve the fine liberation of silver particles (<150 µm), coexistence with lead and zinc sulfides requiring careful reagent schemes, and sensitive tailings management to prevent heavy-metal contamination. Silver’s primary applications span photographic materials, electronics, solar panels, and jewelry—demanding high-purity recovery.

In a typical silver ore beneficiation circuit, the ore is crushed to 10–20 mm before being ground to a P80 of ~150 µm.
The slurry then undergoes gravity separation (shaking tables or spirals) to recover coarse silver–sulfide particles.
Gravity tailings feed into flotation, where xanthate and dithiophosphate collectors selectively float silver sulfides while depressing lead and zinc minerals.
The flotation concentrate proceeds to cyanide leaching, dissolving silver into solution, followed by electrowinning or the Merrill–Crowe process to precipitate high-purity silver.
